How To Create A 1940's Chignon Hair Up Do.

You need to wash and straighten or style your hair as you would normally, but use lots of mousse or gel to prevent slipping of fly away hair. The best up dos aren’t for second day hair! When you see catwalk models and fashion hair it’s freshly washed and styled as an up do, - not placed up because it doesn’t look good down!

Brush the hair into a secure pony tail. Start brushing from the top of the forehead to the nape of the neck, and repeat for the sides. Secure with elastic a similar colour to your hair.  Don’t have your usual parting the classic 1940’s chignon is swept back.

·         Gather your ponytail hair in your hand and run some firm hold gel through the length to make a “sausage” roll of hair. Twist the roll into a tight spiral.

·         Keep twisting and relax your wrist, let the spiral roll curl into itself, manipulate the roll of hair so it coils around the base of the elastic. Secure with Kirby grips.

·         At this point a spiral roll of synthetic hair can be added to pad out the chignon; this will make your hair appear thicker, fuller and more glamorous.

·         Smooth your head with a small amount of firm hold gel to flatten and wispy strands. You may require crystal slides for any layered sections. Finish the chignon with a flower for wedding hair or with a crystal pin for party hair. If you want to secure the chignon with hairspray ensure you cover the hair piece, particularly crystals as hairspray will discolour them.
